Apple to Launch Ad Network: iAd [Gossip]

Sat, Mar 27, 2010

iphone, mobile

Gossip, reports and rumours are suggesting that Apple is about to launch its own mobile ad platform — dubbed “iAd” on April 7th.

Mediapost are suggesting Apple is close to unveiling a personalized advertising experience based on technology from Quattro Wireless, which Apple bought a few months back. Again, we’ll see Apple go head to head with Google, whose gobbled up AdMob (apparently still under review)

April 7th is very interesting: four days after the official launch of the Appe iPad. This could mean that there are going to integrated formats iPad and the iPhone.

Apart for the obvious questions based around ad formats… The big question will be about business model, currently Apple take 70% of the paid for content on the App Store and a big fat zero from advertising. This could mean we’ll see Apple pushing it’s own ad technology and/or sales teams into App and therefore scooping up MORE revenue…

The smart move will be a Ad Exchange for the developer to drive downloads…. No doubt, location based ad serving will be grabbing all the headlines - free coffee at Waterloo Station please

APRIL 7th all we be told…
